Selinunte and Marsala Full day Tour from Palermo
Today you are greeted at Palermo Hotel and drive to Selinunte
Selinunte, the largest Archaeological area in Europe
Mith, legend, history, culture: the Park of Selinunte it’s even more than this. A coffer of treasures far away millenia yet still alive, right here. 270 hectares that tell about one of the most flourishing classical civilizations of the Mediterranean area. A rich story that claim still to be discovered, sought after by tourists as well as researchers and academics from all over the world.
Then light lunch to taste the delicios cous cous with fish
The Sicilian cous cous is a mix of fresh fish and aromas that evoke the scents of Sicily
The Sicilian cous cous has become one of the typical dishes of the region, especially in the area of Trapani, as an authentic symbol of the Sicilian cuisine, because it includes traditional products. Cous cous is a typical Nord Africa dish, but this latter is prepared with meat, while the Sicilian cous cous is made with fish.
This afternoon we then continue onto Marsala.
Marsala, the Arab “Marsa Allah” –Harbour of God–, is known in the whole world for one thing: Wine!
The Marsala Wine comes from the western lands of Sicily and its name derives from the homonymous town. The Marsala is the oldest Italian DOC wine, with an average alcohol content of about 18 degrees. The aromatic and sugary richness of the grapes of Marsala is born from the method of growing them in a ‘sapling’ style, a very ancient method, dating back to the culture of vine itself.
Visit a local winery and enjoy the delicious wines.
Later a stort drive takes us to the Saltpans. Dating back as far as the reign of the Phoenicians some 2700 years ago, the ancient salt pans of western Sicily between Trapani and Marsala have played a hugely important role in the daily life of thousands of Mediterranean and European people for generations.
Being 100% natural and containing a higher proportion of potassium and magnesium, the flavour of Sicilian salt is enhanced and works exceptionally well with fish dishes.
At the end of the tour we drive back to Palermo.
