ITINERARY:
Today meet the tour escort at the meeting point and start your full day tour heading Val d’Orcia, the heart of Tuscany declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This region is characterized by gentle, cultivated hills occasionally broken by gullies and by picturesque towns and villages.
First stop into a winery with tour of wine cellars and tasting of the world-renowned “Brunello di Montalcino” wine. Then move up to the peak of the town of Montalcino, located on a hilltop, enclosed by circular fortified walls and overlooked by a a mighty medieval castle. The following stop is San Quirico D’Orcia, one of the most beautiful and charming medieval towns of the Orcia Valley. Stroll around the historical center dating back over a thousand of years and admire the paved streets and the stone fountains. Then proceed to Pienza, birthplace of Pope Pius II that had the entire village rebuilt as an ideal Renaissance town. Enjoy the cheese tasting session with the famous Pecorino cheese and explore the pretty alleyways of this small town at your leisure. The last stop is Montepulciano, a hilltop town rich of medieval and Renaissance buildings, and world renown for producing one of the oldest wines of Italy, the “Nobile di Montepulciano”. Enjoy your second wine tasting session while visiting the dungeon where the wine is stored under the ancient walls of the winery. At the end of the tour return to Florence.
