Cheese and Mountain Village Experience from Palermo

Meet our driver at your hotel in Palermo and drive on the slopes of the Madonie Nature Park —a UNESCO Geopark Heritage Site–to attend a lovely Cheese Experience.

This is a real dairy experience that allows you to spend a day alongside a local shepherd who produces cheeses as they once did in the Sicilian hinterland.

Today you will see the Màrcato, ancient haystack typically of Madonie Nature Park, in which inside we will live a real immersive experience based on the everyday life of a shepherd, from the pasture to the milking, from milk to the cooking to transform it into several kinds of cheese, different each other for the time of aging.

There will not miss the tastings of several cheeses produced during that day paired with other food.

In the early afternoon we then continue onto Petralia Sottana, a small village on the top of a hill rich in art and culture but also anecdotes and curiosities. Independent visit to the village.

Petralia Sottana, a gem set in the Madonie and the triumph of the Madonite baroque

Petralia Sottana is an elegant village on the southern side of the upper Madonie, not far from its twin city Petralia Soprana. During the Byzantine and Arab dominations, Petralia also constructed a series of castles and fortifications. In the seventeenth century, during a phase of intense development and thanks to the influx of artistic and artisan workers, Petralia Sottana took the form that can still be admired today: beautiful baroque churches, alleys, arcades, stairways, fountains, and the amazing Chiesa Madre –Mother Church– overlooking the village.
Here it is very easy walk independently through the historic center following the Urban Geological Route, an original path that brings attention to fossils, ruins, and notable geological impressions around town.
